Production Log: Deciding What to Put On Each Page of Digipak

Over the weekend I finished and uploaded my storyboard. I also thought of different ideas for the digipak and the magazine adverts. Even though I had done a sketch for it for what I would like it look like I feel I can do better than that as I had forgotten how many skills and tools are available on Adobe InDesign. I also started the shot list. Today I continued on the digipak and magazine advert. I decided I was going to base it on red roses and petals. I felt it could be a key prop of the music video as well. This will match well with my model's bright red lips and it will also tick off one of the pop genre features of bright colours.

Above is the storyboard for my music video. There is a rough drawing of each shot for each lyric line. It also has a small description of what will happen in that scene and shot.

Production Log: Laying Out Magazine Advert +Digipak

During the week I continued on my storyboard. It is making a very slow progress however I have set myself a target to finish it over the weekend. Today I started looking at magazine adverts and started laying out the texts on Adobe InDesign. I did some work however I feel I need to get more fonts online the same way I did the magazine last year. I also thought of type of pictures I could have on the magazine advert. I was thinking of the model sleeping on bed filled with red petals with her eyes closed and she is wearing bright red lipstick. It would be a close up. Additionally after I finish with the storyboard I will start on the shot list and hopefully finish that during the next week.

Production Log: Digipak and Magazine Advert Planning

Today I went through all the planning tasks and decided what I will be needing to do in each one whether I can do them now or when shooting the actual music video. I decided that I really should make a move on with the storyboard and get that done. Additionally I need to start thinking about the other two creative tasks which are Digipaks and Magazine Advert. I do feel a lot of time is being wasted by just 'thinking of ideas' however I must keep on top of my work in order to not fall behind.

Above is my digipak. I have decided I want to do an eight-paged digipak. One will be the front cover, another will be a back cover which will have a message to the fans. One will be where the CD will be placed. Another page will be the tracklist and the other two pages will be an image of the artist spread across the two pages with a song lyric line.

Production Log: Putting Ideas Together

Over the week I managed to get the moodboard done. Today I continued with storyboard however I didn't do much due to lack of ideas however have arranged a session whereby I'll be spending time with the choreographer. I will also need to confer these ideas with the model whether she will be comfortable or not. In order to get something done today I continued to look at other music videos and got some ideas from it. I had to look at music videos which had performances and was not narrative based. Over the weekend I am going to start thinking about the magazine advert and digipak ideas.

Production Log: Inspiration

Over the weekend I analysed the lyrics. This allowed me to dig deep into the lyrics. Today I continued with storyboard. To help me I looked at other music videos. I also took a closer look at the original music video for my song and what is shown on screen per beat. I realised that background dancers would be useful however I don't know anyone who would be willing to take time out. I found this particular video of the song quite helpful as it showed me different dance moves which are quite simple to do. 



During the week I will try and get my moodboard done as well as some more progress on the storyboard. I feel once I get the storyboard done I will be able to do the shot list and script.

Production Log: Storyboarding

Over the week I asked my costume designer on how long it will take her to make the two dresses. The black dress is in progress and should be done hopefully within 2 weeks. However due to lack of time, she is unable to do the white dress and will therefore need to go shopping for other outfits for my model to wear. Or we can make do with the clothes she already has. I also got photographs of the possible locations I will shoot my music video. Today I started sketching my storyboard out. Even though I had taken still images I still felt the need to sketch them out with detail per lyric line. Over the weekend I plan to continue to work on the storyboard. I may also analyse the lyrics of the song as part of one of my planning tasks.

Production Log: Filling Out Forms + Storyboarding

Over the weekend I did a planning task which was the model release form which is a form confirming that my model does not mind being recorded and does not mind me using the footage. Today I made notes on 6 main things of a music video and process of shooting it. This helped me a lot as it allowed me to think mentally on how I plan to set out it each shot. It also helped me think of how I'll go about editing it. I learnt about the rule of thirds, balanced composition, visual progression, image systems, jump cuts and the 180 degree rule. Below is an image of my note making. Over the week I will hopefully get some rough drawings of my storyboard done as I want to start my virtual storyboard on Friday.

Production Log: Start to Plan Further

Over the week I uploaded 5 videos of the key concepts; genre, narrative, media language, representation and audience as a research task. These 5 videos were done for the exam side however they help me create a perfect music video for me to talk about in the exam by including important features from each key concept. Today I worked on the script as due to some technical glitch my script wouldn't open so I had to restart it; luckily I hadn't done that much. Over the weekend I plan to continue working on the script and maybe start on a hand drawn storyboard even though I have still images I need to draw out in rough a detailed idea of my whole music video. During the weekend I plan on getting done some of the minor planning tasks such as the model release form.

Production Log: Summer Holidays

Over the holidays I did quite a lot; more than I expected quite frankly. I manage to finish all my research tasks and did 3 planning tasks. I also got good detailed feedback from the audience and what they think of my idea. Now I can concentrate on the planning and scripting of my music video. I did plan on shooting my music video during the holidays however all three of us (me, my model and my choreographer) were on holiday. But this allowed me to take nice photos that may be used for digipak or even for any green screen backgrounds if I use the green screen effect.
